X Games Rally Star to Throw First Pitch at Dodgers' Game

LOS ANGELES, CA — X Games Rally driver Andrew Comrie-Picard will throw the ceremonial first pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game this coming Sunday, July 19, against the Houston Astros.

Comrie-Picard is in Los Angeles preparing for ESPN's X Games 15, which runs July 28 through August 2. A spectacular end-over-end flip over the 70-foot gap jump at last year's contest has made him a fan favorite at the contest and he is favored for a medal this year.

"It's a terrific opportunity to showcase the X Games and Rally America to baseball fans across America," said Comrie-Picard. "I'm hoping that everyone watching will tune into the X Games too."

Comrie-Picard's NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally car will be on display in Autograph Alley before the game, and Comrie-Picard will also be available to talk to fans and sign autographs.

"I've been trying to throw wads of duct tape through an open window -- with varying degrees of success," said Comrie-Picard, when asked if he's warming up for the big throw. "Rally drivers are some of the most versatile competitors in the world and I sure hope I can handle a baseball, too."

The X Games Rally Car Race runs Aug. 2, starting at 12:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) and will be broadcast live on ESPN and ABC.

The X Games is the premier extreme sports competition on the globe, which features the best action sports athletes competing in motocross, skateboard, BMX and rally. It runs July 28 through August 2 at the Home Depot Center and the Staples Center venues, in Los Angeles. This summer marks the 15-year anniversary of the X Games.

Comrie-Picard has been among the dozen invited drivers every year since the rally discipline was introduced to the contest, and he secured a first-round invitation to return in 2009.

Rally car racing is considered the extreme sport of automobile racing and is often described simply as "real cars, real roads, real fast." This all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over courses that cover hundreds of miles of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads.

The Rally America national championship includes nine events in a cross-continent season that extends from January to late October.
