RallyVW Racing Debuts Diesel Powered Rally Car

Marysville Ohio -- RallyVW Racing, a Marysville Ohio based ProRally team unveils its 2000 Volkswagen Golf Tdi at the Sno*drift ProRally. The team took 2nd place nationally in class last season in their 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit. The team will be campaigning the only diesel powered rally car in the United States.

Fresh from a spectacular rookie season, driver and team owner Jon Hamilton is excited by the abilities of this car. I chose the car because of its reliability, performance, and most of all its uniqueness, explaines Jon.

One of the team's goals is to showcase the alternative fuel engine against the standard gasoline engine. The car will be competing for the Production class championship. Jon believes the torque from the diesel engine with give the car a great advantage in this limited modification class.

Sno*Drift ProRally kicks off the 9 event ProRally Season. The event has its own unique challenge, ice. This will be the team's third attempt of the event, finishing strong the last two years in a row. "The roads are extremely treacherous", states Jon, "with a two wheel drive vehicle you are constantly looking for traction." The team is looking for another consistent rally and season. Last year finishing strong in each of their seven events entered.

The team plans on competing for the SCCA ProRally Production class Championship. They received the car in late October and have been challenged to build the car in less than two months. One of team's greatest strengths is its talented, dedicated crew. Their main focus was safety modifications; the car will evolve throughout the season to meet the needs of each rally. Ken Sabo will be co-driving Sno*Drift, after taking runner-up nationally in class last season. Josh Westhoven will be running a limited schedule this season as co-driver. Brett Fairbanks returns as Crew Chief with Jim Chenoweth, Rich Lipstreu, and Mike Jackson to fill out the service crew.

The Sports Car Club of America ProRally Championship is the nations only performance rally series with uniquely varied venues coast-to-coast. Teams compete flat out against the clock for hundreds of miles over closed-to-the- public forestry roads separated into a series of special stages. A co-driver tells the driver where jumps, dangerous turns or other obstacles are to the hundredth of a mile by utilizing a route book while competing.
